First Facility Opens at New Canberra Industrial Park

17 June 2010

Grace Group (Grace) today (Thursday 17 June 2010) opened its new facility at the ACT’s first masterplanned industrial estate, Monaro Industrial Park, in Hume.

The storage facility was designed and developed by one of Australia’s leading property development groups, Walker Corporation, who is also the owner and developer of the 30ha estate.

The 11,480 square metre high security facility for Grace Group will be a major storage centre for Federal and ACT Government, as well as those in the Corporate sector.

The state of the art new centre incorporates a 5,600sqm warehouse, truck parking bays and roads. The new facility was designed by Walker Corporation’s team of in-house architects. Grace has committed to an 8 year lease on the new facility with a 10 year option.

This is the second facility that Walker Corporation has completed for Grace in a matter of years – the company also delivered a $10million new facility for the company in Campelltown in 2004.

Steven Brown, Managing Director of Grace Group said that Grace’s new facility would optimize the company’s operations in Canberra, by consolidating a number of existing facilities into one, purpose-built centre.

“Grace is committed to providing our customers with the best service possible, and a big part of that is ensuring we have the right property solution to meet our future growth and business needs. Relocating to Monaro Industrial Park is an outstanding result for our business – it’s the only location Canberra that could provide enough space and flexibility to deliver a purpose-built facility of this size and scale, with the opportunity for expansion space.

“We know from our past experience with Walker they deliver a quality product, and our new facility is testament to that,” said Mr Brown.

Executive Chairman of Walker Corporation, Lang Walker, said it was fantastic to welcome a reputable and high profile company like Grace Group to the estate as the foundation tenant.

“It’s been fantastic to work with Grace again to deliver a second industrial facility for them in a number of years. Our dedicated industrial team has worked to deliver a total turnkey property solution for Grace from design right through the delivery process – the end result is a state-of-the-art new facility which will satisfy Grace’s business needs over the long-term,” said Mr Walker.

Grace Group will be the first company to officially relocate into the new estate; however will soon be joined by other businesses including Downer EDI and Innaimo Transport. Walker has also sold a number of sites to local developers for smaller strata unit developments.

“We’re really pleased at how well the estate has been received in Canberra – already over 50% of the site is committed or under negotiation, which is an excellent result,” said Mr Walker.

The $100 million, 30 hectare Monaro Industrial Park in Hume is located at Tralee St just off the Monaro Highway.

Walker has a range of industrial lots available through Colliers International – with blocks for sale from 5,000 square metres to 20,000 square metres, and lease options starting from 2,500 square metres.

Mr Paul Powderly of Colliers International said “Grace Group is blazing a trail for companies and government departments to re-locate their ACT operations in what is the territory’s first masterplanned industrial estate”.
