Allied Pickfords Open New Facility in Hume

25 November 2011

Allied Pickfords, the world’s largest removal company, have opened the doors on their newly completed facility at Canberra’s most sought after industrial estate, Monaro Industrial Park in Hume. The estate is owned and developed by leading national industrial property company, Walker Corporation.

Allied Pickfords relocated their business from an existing facility in Queanbeyan to the new state of the art industrial park. The new facility was designed by Walker Corporation’s in-house team of architects in consultation with Allied Pickfords executive management team.

Walker completed negotiations for the pre-lease development mid 2010 and obtained approval for the large storage facility by October 2010. Earthworks commenced in January 2011 with the development completed in July 2011.

Monaro Industrial Park has already attracted a large number of major businesses as well as local developers who will build smaller strata units at the development.

Andrew Simpson, Director and General Manager of Allied Pickfords Australia said that the new storage facility would streamline their business in Canberra.

“Our Canberra facility is a purpose built warehouse and office tailored to our government and consumer customers’ requirements. Our continued growth in the Canberra market is reflective of our strong brand and customer loyalty in the ACT Region.

We have designed the facility in consultation with Walker Corporation to ensure a safe, secure and environmentally friendly site. Our Project Manager, Gary Carter and his team have done an outstanding job to ensure our facilities serve our business and the region for growth in the years ahead. We have recently completed a similar project in Brisbane and also due to open our Adelaide office in coming months,” said Mr Simpson.

This is the third purpose built facility Walker has delivered for Allied Pickfords nationally and Executive Chairman of Walker Corporation, Lang Walker, welcomed them to Monaro Industrial Park, affirming the high caliber of tenants already committed to the estate.

“It’s great to work with the Allied Pickfords group again – they’re a global business with significant interests in the Canberra market, and we’re pleased to have delivered this property solution for their business. This new facility for Allied Pickfords contributes to the 100,000sqm of industrial space that we have delivered across the nation in the last 24 months,” said Mr Walker.

“Monaro Industrial Park has been a highly successful development for Walker with over 50% of the estate already committed, and a further 25% under negotiation. “

Mr Paul Powderly, State Chief Executive at Colliers International said “Canberra has long required a quality industrial estate where land could be made available for larger users in a quality environment, rather than piecemeal releases of the past.

“Monaro Industrial Park has attracted quality users for this reason,” he said.

Walker Corporation is one of Australia’s leading private development companies, with interests across all property sectors. The company has a $3bn portfolio of landbanks under development across the nation, including Monaro Industrial Park. In Canberra, the company has also completed the 40,000sqm, 6 Green Star rated Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations offices and recently acquired the Myuna complex which will be redeveloped providing in excess of 60,000sqm of commercial space.
